| Payment
Policy |
| You
may pay for meals by the day, week, or month with cash or check.
We have a computerized system. The best part of this system is that
each student now has an “account” with us. This is a
debit account, not a credit account. This means that money is deposited
into the account and then the student can purchase food items using
that account. A mealtime, the student inputs his/her personal ID
number/bar code and the computer will access his/her account. The
cashier will let the student know when their balances are getting
low. Make checks payable to the school cafeteria. Students can turn
in their deposits anytime between 7:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Monday
through Friday. You can also make the check for multiple students.
Please do not include payment for other school events in the money
for meals. |
| Charge
Policy |
| Please
pay at the time of purchase or prepay for meals. There is no charge
policy. However, should the student forget his or her lunch money,
a meal will be provided and a meal charge will be made. The charge
must be paid the next day. |
| Texas
Public School Nutrition Policy |
| The
Texas Department of Agriculture has created new nutrition guidelines
to promote a healthier environment in schools. These new guidelines
were designed because childhood obesity and other diet-related diseases
are increasing at alarming rates in our school-age children. The
problem doesn’t end with just being overweight or obese. Children
who are overweight are at risk of developing serious long-term health
problems, including Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and
stroke, hypertension, high blood pressure, gallbladder disease,
asthma and certain cancers. These
new guidelines focus on cutting down the amount and type of fat
in the diet and cutting down on sweets and other foods that are
high and calories and low in nutrients. For example, soft drinks
and candy are limited at the secondary schools and eliminated
at the elementary schools. Foods such as pastry, ice cream, and
fries are restricted in the portion and frequency in which they
can be served. Food from outside sources may not be brought on
campus at the elementary schools and are restricted at the secondary
schools. For more detail on these guidelines, see the handout
given in the school registration packet.
Foods available
on school premises should provide for the nutritional well-being
of children and be considered as carefully as other educational
support services. Nutritious meals can improve students’
concentration and help them succeed academically. These new guidelines
became effective August 1, 2004 and are an important step forward
in improving the nutritional health of students. |
