Diboll ISD Announces New Director of Family Literacy and LPC

A new person but familiar face will be taking the reins of the Family Literacy Center for the 2019-2020 school year. At Tuesday evenings board meeting , Mrs. Shawna Neal, was named the Director of Family Literacy and LPC, replacing Mrs. Charlotte Morris - Carter who is retiring at the end of her 2018-2019 contract.

Mrs. Neal joined Diboll ISD 7 years ago and currently serves as the Licensed Professional Counselor for the district. Her role includes working with children that have high risk needs, parents and families. For 2019-2020, Mrs. Neal will continue in that capacity as well as assume the responsibilities of the Director of Family Literacy. Superintendent, Vicki Thomas, stated that, “Mrs. Neal possesses the unique skill set, access to resources, vision, work ethic and passion to help underserved populations, both adults and children, in our community. I know she will do a great job working with the Family Literacy Staff. Mrs. Neal received her Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation and Master of Arts in Rehabilitation Counseling from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches Texas. After graduation she obtained her licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Rehabilitation Counselor.

She has over twenty five years of mental health experience.  She has been a Licensed Professional Counselor for the past 20 years.  She has worked for a local Mental Health Authority for seven years in a variety of roles to include child and adolescent and adult mental health. She has also worked with the adolescent drug and alcohol programs.

Mrs. Neal has worked for a Residential Treatment Center for children and adolescents for seven years as the Treatment Supervisor. During her stay at the RTC she became a Licensed Childcare Administrator. She went into private practice in 2008 and provided individual counseling, family counseling, and marriage counseling.  She worked with foster families and adoptive families. She has ten years of total experience in education with 3 years at Angelina College and the 7 years at Diboll ISD.

Mrs. Neal is married with two children.  She is currently serving her seventh year on the Chester ISD Board of Trustees with four of them serving as the Secretary.  She has also been the President of Chester’s Athletic Booster Club and is currently the secretary of the Chester’s Buyer’s Club.
