Superintendent Updates Parents on Today's Electricity Outage and Brush Fire

Dear Parents,

Due to high wind conditions we had electrical wires break and spark resulting in a brush fire in the field directly across from H.G. Temple Elementary and Intermediate. Several area fire departments responded immediately and were able to contain the situation. The winds were blowing away from H.G. Temple and the High School. In consultation with the fire department, there was no reason to evacuate the campuses.

Subsequently, electric power went out throughout our district facilities which resulted in phones being inoperable as well as internet and most cell phones. This was also the same scenario in many residences and businesses throughout the City of Diboll. As a result, we were unable to notify parents in a timely way related to the brush / field fire and the lack of power.

Students and staff were safe and buses ran on time. As it stands, power has been returned to most of our facilities at approximately 4:00 p.m. H.G. Temple power should be restored late this evening.

Thank You,

Vicki Thomas
